Pacoima


Situated in the San Fernando Valley, Pacoima derives its name as translated in an Indian term means ‘rushing water’, which otherwise means ‘the entrance’ comes from the Tataviam language. With the suburbanization in the 1950’s, Pacoima changed from a farmland to a bedroom community, consisting mainly of Latino’s. Pacoima came into news with the national headlines in 1957, with three students of Pacoima Junior High School, amongst the eight who were killed because of the midair collision.

Major attractions include the Natural History Museum, Kidspace Children’s Museum, Zimmer Children’s Museum, Fahey/Klein Gallery, Renacer Christian Center, Hansen Dam Golf Course, El Girasol and El Paseo Bars, and the Pacoima Branch Library.
